We are often asked how our Harmony Turbines will function in severe COLD weather, with sub-freezing temperatures, snow, ice, etc. That's a great question and we'd like to share our thoughts with you.
While our ALPHA and BETA units will be able to withstand some degree of wintry weather, the larger body of testing and confirmation on this subject will come from our BETA users who use our first products in weather more severe than what the Susquehanna Valley, PA can muster. LOL! We recognize, of course, that some additional engineering will come into play to enable our wind turbines to withstand severe cold temperatures and copious amounts of snow and ice. These modifications may include different materials for our scoops and gearing, resistive heating, drainage holes, etc.... The updates will be done in later models, as they will require some significant engineering effort as well as subsequent testing in the field.
Not many of us remember any more when the first automobile rolled off the assembly line, but it didn't have all-wheel-drive or snow tires on it. It had no windshield wipers or defrosters. Those weren't developed until later. In the same manner, we will also be addressing the cold climate model research and development after we're in production.
This R&D will be expensive and take some time for vetting so it has to wait until we can afford to do it properly. Hopefully you understand that trying to solve ALL the problems in the first commercial release of Harmony, would delay the launch for years and cost a fortune. Therefore we are opting for incremental improvements and step-by-step development. We'll get a base model into the market that meets the needs of many, and with the revenue from those sales, we plan to focus on improved models that meet the needs of many others.
